Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj is the spiritual head of Science of Spirituality (link to Our Organization). He comes from a long lineage of spiritual Masters who, through an ancient technique of meditation, have helped countless thousands embark on the inner spiritual journey to realize their existence at the level of the spirit and to discover the peace and joy that await us within. He is internationally recognized for his work toward promoting inner and outer peace through spirituality and has hundreds of thousands of followers around the world.

I find my scientific background helped me question and study spirituality with the point of view of a scientist. In the scientific method, we test a hypothesis and carefully make observations. This scientific approach helped me prove the validity of my spiritual experiences. Similarly, my spiritual background enabled me to better pursue the study of science.

Education and Career

Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj earned his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, and came to the United States in 1968 to pursue a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He then went on to have a distinguished career in science, computers, and telecommunications.

Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj was born in India into a spiritually-enriched family and completed his spiritual journey under the guidance of two great spiritual Masters: Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj (1894–1974) and Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj (1921–1989). His training in both disciplines – science and spirituality – has helped him express age-old spiritual teachings in a clear, logical language.

Spiritual Ministry

The spiritual ministry of Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj began May 30, 1989 at the direction of his predecessor, Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj (1921-1989). Since then, he has dedicated his life to promoting the many benefits of meditation and helping thousands embark on the profound, experiential journey of self-discovery to deepen our connection with ourselves, with God, and with our fellow beings. When not traveling the globe, he and his wife, Mata Rita Ji, divide their time between Delhi, India, and Chicago, Illinois. They have two adult children, who are both physicians and married.

Teaching Spirituality as a Science

Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj teaches spirituality as a practical science. He offers meditation as the experiment that we can all conduct in the laboratory of our bodies to have a practical experience of God. The form of meditation that he teaches, SOS Meditation, can be practiced by anyone, irrespective of age, faith, or culture. Through this technique, the practitioner can have a firsthand, experience of the inner Light, affirming that there is something that lies beyond this physical world.

Science and spirituality make a great partnership. If those engaged in science spend time in the silence of their selves, inspiration will come and lead them to the answers they seek. If those interested in spirituality apply the scientific law of testing a hypothesis in the laboratories of their own bodies, they will find results. Each person is capable of success in proving spiritual truths. Such pursuits can make the world a better place as well as uncover the purpose of our lives.

Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj is Founder and Chairman of Darshan Education Foundation (DEF),

Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj is the inspiration behind Veggie Fest, the largest vegetarian food and lifestyle festival in North America. The festival celebrates the many benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle, which include personal health and wellness, and reducing our carbon and ecological footprint on the planet. It is based on the premise of a nonviolent and compassionate life, which makes it is easier for us to grow spiritually, while also preserving the earth’s bounty for future generations. Over a thousand volunteers from around the world come together each year, in the spirit of selfless service to make the event possible.
