Practice Makes Perfect

For spiritual growth, we need to perfect the practice of meditation. Many people will learn how to meditate but not practice it to the point of perfecting it. We do not want to just learn the technique and say, “Oh, that is very nice,” and then not do it again. To perfect the ability of withdrawing our attention, we need to practice it daily.

It is not easy to retrain our attention to focus within. It has been in the habit of focusing outside. The meditation practice is simple; it is trying to retrain our attention to meditate accurately and focus within that is difficult.

To meditate accurately does not mean that we only sit with our body still while our mind is running amok. We need to sit with a still mind, totally focused on keeping our gaze fixed in what appears in front of us with our eyes closed.

This means unwavering attention with no thoughts. In this way we can gain the practice needed to stay focused.

It is by staying alert and focused that we can see the inner Light and the various inner vistas waiting for us within. They are there, but we fail to observe them because we are distracted by thoughts. If we keep our mind still, we will see the glorious treasures awaiting us within.

By the daily, regular, and accurate practice of meditation, we become more adept. Finally, it becomes a natural part of our lives and we can do it easily and effectively.

In this video clip, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj encourages us to sit in meditation daily. He compares this regular practice to the value of watering seeds regularly when we want them to sprout.

The Power of Love and Kindness

On May 30 people all over the world honor Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj, the great spiritual Master and poet-saint who left the world thirty years ago in 1989. It has been thirty years since he left, but his life and example still shine brightly as a guiding star upon which we can base our own lives. Among his radiant qualities were his love and kindness.

Mother’s Day

On Mother’s Day let us honor God and our mother for bringing us into this world and giving us love and care. We should extend this gratitude not just on the second Sunday of May, but every day of our lives.

The Spiritual Aspect of Earth Day

The Spiritual Aspect of Earth Day

Taking care of the earth means that we do not only think of ourselves, but we expand our mind, hearts, and souls to consider our planet and all forms of life that inhabit it. We can do so by opening our hearts in a spirit of humility, compassion, selflessness, and gratitude.
