Unity in Diversity

Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj

A color wheel is a round, flat disk made of paper or cardboard. The outer edge is painted or colored with stripes for each of the seven color-wheel-unity-benefit of meditationcolors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. When the wheel is spun quickly, the colors blend and turn into white. As it spins at high speeds, only a pure white wheel with no hint of any of the rainbow colors is seen.

Children are often amazed at how all the colors can turn into white. But what they do not realize is that it is the other way around. It is white light that is the only color, but through a process of dispersion, it breaks up into the different colors of the rainbow.

Each color has its own wavelength. As light passes through different materials, those substances reflect light at various wavelengths, giving the appearance of different colors. But there is only one color—pure light.

Similarly, if we look at humanity, we see on the outer surface a variety of people with different hair colors, eye colors, and skin colors. There are people with black hair, brown hair, red, yellow, white, and gray hair. We even have people who dye their hair green, purple, and blue.  We have people with black eyes, brown eyes, green eyes, and blue eyes. Skin color ranges from dark to light.

While outer colors may vary, the underlying color of all humanity is the same. That color is light.

Our soul is our true essence. It is the enlivening force by which our bodies work. The soul of each of us is one and the same. Each of our souls is Light. It is one and the same Light that illumines each of our souls. The differences among us are only due to the different vestures in which that Light is embodied.

Just as white light manifests as the seven colors of the rainbow when it passes through different types of matter, similarly, the Light of the soul is one, even though it inhabits physical bodies having many different colors.
